Welcome from the Scientific Director

Welcome to the website of the Network Center for Biomedical Research in Neurodegenerative Diseases.

The area of Neurodegenerative Diseases of CIBER (CIBERNED) has as its ultimate objective to combat neurodegenerative diseases by promoting research of excellence and its safe translation into clinical practice.

Neurodegenerative diseases are caused by a progressive process of degeneration that accelerates cell death and affects the central nervous system (CNS). At CIBERNED we study the most prevalent diseases, as well as other series of pathologies, structuring our research into three programs: Alzheimer's disease and other degenerative dementias; Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease and other degenerative motor disorders; and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and other neuromuscular disorders

To achieve our objectives, we have 55 clinical and basic research groups integrated both in hospitals of the National Health System and in Universities and Research Centers of excellence distributed throughout the Spanish territory. In this way, we bring together more than 400 top-level national and international researchers in our field.

CIBERNED is a center open to collaboration and committed to scientific dissemination, so I encourage you to follow the progress of our research through the news that you will find on the website.

Warm regards,

Adolfo López de Munain
CIBERNED Scientific Director
